Buyer Needed For Wakeman House

The Mendon Downtown Development Authority is hoping it can find a buyer for the Wakeman House, believed to be the oldest building in the village.

The DDA recently completed the purchase of the one-time hotel for $170,000 after it was foreclosed. The purchase price includes all contents.

Operated most recently as the Mendon Country Inn bed and breakfast, the 10-bedroom building includes a full-service industrial kitchen. Village Manager John Hyden said the building needs some work but remains a potentially attractive business opportunity for someone willing to commit their time to its operations.

The site loses its zoning for bed and breakfast in a year, prompting the DDA to consider acting hastily in marketing the building and 3 1/2-acre property.
