Mr. Charles C. Pomeroy Sr., age 86, of Marcellus, formerly of Lake Templene and Portage, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 30, 1925 in Kalamazoo, the son of Grant and Letha (Newton) Pomeroy.
Mr. Pomeroy served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an Electricians Mate Third Class.
On Jan. 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mrs. Barbara (Marr) Pomeroy. Together they enjoyed 65 years of marriage and raising their family.
Mr. Pomeroy was employed following the war at International Paper as a machine operator for over 42 years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and camping often traveling with his family. His true love was spending time with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ken and Ray Pomeroy.
Mr. Pomeroy leaves to cherish his loving memory, his beloved wife, Barb Pomeroy, of Marcellus; three children, Evelyn (Les) Flowers, of Marcellus, Ellen J. Pomeroy, of Gentry, Ariz., and Charlie (Gloria) Pomeroy, of Centreville; six grandchildren, Sherry (Tim) Bullock, Mike (Tina) Pomeroy, Emily (David) Taylor, Sally (Tim) Harker, Kelly (John) DePierre, and Tammy (Pat) Surento; three brothers, Gerald, David (Sandy) Pomeroy, both of Kalamazoo, and Roy (Sandy) Pomeroy, of Richland; many great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the Word Fellowship Church, 27570 Marvin Rd., Centreville.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at the Word Fellowship Church, with Pastor Russ Stauffer officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service as well.
Interment will be held in Mt. Everest Cemetery, Kalamazoo, MI.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Word Fellowship church or Southern Care Hospice of Kalamazoo. Envelopes available at the church or Hohner Funeral Home in care of Mr. Pomeroy’s arrangements.
