Richard Lee Flowers, age 69, of Burr Oak, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 20, 2012, at his home.
He was born Oct. 31, 1942, in Sturgis, a son of the late Carl and Florence (Miller) Flowers.
Dick had resided most of his life in the Burr Oak area, except for the 15 years he lived in North Carolina.
On June 20, 1964, he married Margaret Pant in Sturgis.
Dick was a diesel mechanic by trade and had been employed by the Penske Corporation for many years.
He enjoyed woodworking, small engine repair, playing golf, his motorcycles, reading and he built his home.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Margaret; three daughters, Lee Flowers of Morganton, N.C., Lisa (Alan) Toering of Northville and Lauren (Tim) Smith of Lake Orion; four grandchildren, Trevor Toering, Ryan Sanborn, Emily Toering and Reagan Sanborn; one sister, Debi (Gary) Kindig of Spring Hill, Tenn.; four brothers, Keith Flowers of Sturgis, Michael (Robyn) Flowers of Nashville, Fred (Mary) Flowers of Centreville and Randy Flowers of Sturgis; sister-in-law, Janet Flowers of Beaverton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother Roland Flowers.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Richard Flowers will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. The Rev. Deb Johnson of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis will officiate.
