Douglas Garrison, 94

Douglas Garrison, 94, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Bangor, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 in Kalamazoo. Doug was born April 4, 1917 in Three Rivers, the son of Norman W. and Olive Marie Garrison. Douglas served in the US Army Air Corps as a gunnery instructor during WWII. He was a graduate of Alma College and held a master’s degree from U of M.

He was a lifelong educator and served as elementary principal in Bangor for many years. Sports were very important in his life, from coaching little league to following the U of M teams. Golf and tennis were favorite past times. Doug was also a long time member of the Bangor Kiwanis Club.

He was united in marriage to Clara Jeanne Polas on Sept. 19, 1942 and was a devout member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bangor. Doug and Jeanne enjoyed travel and spent nearly 30 winters in Panama City Beach, Fla. Surviving are his wife, Clara Jeanne; son, Douglas (Cheryl); two daughters, Gloria Waite and Gail (John) Weisgerber; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bangor, Pastor Joshua Becker officiating. Burial will take place Monday in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.
