James Robert Rahfeldt, 72, of Three Rivers, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., died at 7:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. He was born Feb. 15, 1940 in Michigan City, Ind. to Robert F. and Evelyn (Reed) Rahfeldt.
On Oct. 26, 1963 in LaPorte, Ind. he married Shirley M. Garrett. She died on Jan. 9, 1996 in Elkhart. Surviving is a daughter, Laura (Charles) Rahfeldt-Thomas and a granddaughter, Zoe Thomas both of Portage.
James graduated in 1958 from LaPorte High School. In 1962 he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Purdue University. He was an avid reader and computer enthusiast. James started his computer career in 1968 with IBM. He retired in 2002 from the Bayer Corp., as a computer systems analyst. He worked for Bayer for 19 years.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at Rice Cemetery. A gathering for friends and family will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 2-4 p.m. in the East Room at the Matterhorn Restaurant, 2041 Cassopolis Street, Elkhart, Ind.
