Louis Kondas, 71

Louis Kondas, 71, of Mendon Township, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. He was born in Czechoslovakia on Feb. 19, 1940 the son of Laszlo and Madga (Parajos) Kondas. He played soccer and was a bricklayer in his younger days. Louis came to the United States in 1969 with the assistance of the Mary Lagoni family, his aunt and godmother. He was married to Eva Kacsik in Mendon on July 24, 1969 and they have resided in the Mendon area since their marriage.

Louis worked at the Haas Corporation, later LSI for 32 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the former Hungarian Reformed Church in Kalamazoo and the West Mendon United Methodist Church. He enjoyed wine-making, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed entertaining friends and family and will be remembered for his bacon fries.

Louis is survived by his wife, Eva; two daughters, Eva (John) Wolf of San Antonio, Texas and Kathy (Steve) Hambright of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Alex Zobian, “T-Bone” and Sabrina Wolf, Jackson, Benjamin and Sydney Hambright; the Lagoni family; and nieces, nephews and cousins in Europe. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Frank and Laszlo Kondas.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the funeral home with Rev. Ward Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to either the West Mendon United Methodist Church, or to Kairos Dwelling.
