Three Rivers Health Is Healthy

Officials from Three Rivers Health reported last week that the hospital realized more than $500,000 in net income in 2011.

The matter was brought up during the Three Rivers Health Board of Directors meeting last Thursday. Three Rivers Health CEO Bill Russell said the figure represents an increase from $172,000 a year ago.

Hospital officials said a key factor in the healthier report stems from a vote last year to turn Three Rivers Health into a 501(C)(3) operation. The matter was strongly supported by voters and as a result, a refiniancing of its debt at a lower interest rate helped the medical center turn the corner.

If the hospital is able to maintain a positive fund balance, its primary goal is to purchase new equipment.
