Arlene M. Kern, 64, of Porter Township, Cass County, White Pigeon, died unexpectedly Monday, March 26, 2012, at her home.
She was born May 16, 1947, in Three Rivers, a daughter of George and Erma (Pagels) Swartz. She had been a resident of Porter Township for more than 40 years.
On Dec. 14, 1968, she married Rondell R. Kern Sr. in Three Rivers.
She had been employed at Arco in Schoolcraft, and retired from Syndicate Systems in Middlebury, Ind.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, baking, canning, raising animals, traveling with her husband and time with her family.
Surviving are her husband, Rondell R. Kern of White Pigeon; a daughter, Samantha (John) Wodtkey of Elkhart, Ind.; sons Henry Kern of White Pigeon, Rondell (Lisa) Kern Jr. of Magee, Miss., Rob Roy Kern of Marcellus and Scott Kern of Logansport, Ind.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her mother, Erma Swartz of Marcellus; and a brother, Raymond Swartz Sr. of Marcellus.
She was preceded in death by her father; her stepson, Mark Potter; a sister; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Glenn Bell Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mottville Township Cemetery.
