Citizens of the Year Announced

The Three Rivers Lions Club has selected Vera and Jim Bippus of Three Rivers as its 2012 “Citizens of the Year.”

The selection makes them the fourth married couple to win the award since the local Lions Club started its Citizen of the Year program in 1965.

In keeping with its tradition, the Lions Club and its Citizen of the Year award recognizes a local resident or couple who has shown a commitment to service and given unselfishly of themselves for the betterment of the community.

Lions Club officials said the couple’s history of service extends across many years and spans generations of recipients.

A banquet honoring Vera and Jim Bippus will take place at 6 p.m. April 24 at Belle Époque (formerly A Place in Time), in Three Rivers.

Tickets for the event are $20 per person and will be on sale through April 17 at Southern Michigan Bank & Trust in downtown Three Rivers.

Tickets will not be available at the door.
