Donald Bogen, 84

Donald G. Bogen, age 84, of Centreville, Mich., passed away early Thursday morning, March 15, 2012, at his home.

He was born May 19, 1927, in Sturgis, Mich., a son of the late Louis and Helen (Harris) Bogen.

Mr. Bogen was a lifelong Sturgis and Centreville area resident. On Jan. 26, 1952, he married Alberta J. Ritter in Angola, Ind. She died July 17, 2011.

He was a farmer for most of his working life. He had also been employed by M&R in Sturgis and the National Carbon Coated Paper Company.

Don was proud and honored to have served his country from Aug.8, 1945 – Feb. 8, 1947 in the U.S. Army during World War II earning the rank of Private First Class.

He had a true passion and love of farming and was happiest when he was working on his farm from cutting wood and clearing brush to planting, harvesting, raising chickens and selling eggs.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Chuck) Arver, Rick (Doris) Bogen, Ron (Mary) Bogen and Cathy Bogen; grandchildren, Christopher (Cristina) Arver, Craig (Stephanie) Arver, Michelle (Andy) Rohrer, Angela (Ben) West, Sara Bogen, Royce (Renee) Bogen, Reise (Jenny) Bogen, Rodney (Brittni) Bogen and Reid (Sara) Bogen; step-grandchildren, Kimberly (Aaron) Barrett and Nicole Scott; great grandchildren, Eddie Arver, Corbin Arver, Kaid Arver, Kenna Rohrer, Cole Rohrer, Emily West, Mason Bogen, Ann Bogen, Rose Bogen, Riley Bogen, Lexi Bogen, Kenzie Bogen and Katelyn West; and one great-grandchild on the way; step-great grandchildren, Jitrin Hutasingh, Jessica Hutasingh, Ashley Bowser and Tristan Heykoop; sisters, Alice (Charles) Brown and Judy Farrand; brother, Richard (Shirley) Bogen; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Donald G. Bogen will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Carpenter will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
