The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into illegal dumping of tires in Constantine Township.
Investigators were notified by the St. Joseph County Road Commission about a location where a number of tires were discarded alongside a roadway. The sheriff’s department is working with the tire manufacturers to determine the original owners of the tires.
Investigators believe contractors who were paid to remove the tires from private residences and small businesses were responsible for the incident. Original owners of the tires might help police find out to whom they paid to take the tires off their hands.
The parties responsible for the disposal will face criminal charges and be held responsible for the cost it took the road commission to clean the site.
