Steven John “Uncle Ninny” Robertson, age 52, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday morning, March 8, 2012, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Centreville.
He was born Feb. 10, 1960, in Kalamazoo, a son of John and Marilyn (Kay) Robertson.
Steve resided in Sturgis since age 14. His early life was lived in Colorado and he had also lived in Kalamazoo and Detroit.
Steve was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1979. He continued his education at Florida Southern College in Lakeland Florida and in 1985 received a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in psychology from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
He had been employed by Prudential Insurance Company, Boots Pharmaceuticals, Gateway Ford and Metropolitan Financial. Steve enjoyed most sports, hunting, fishing, playing golf and loved time spent with his sons.
He is survived by three sons, Zack (Fonda) Robertson of Kalamazoo, Seth Robertson, a student at IUPUI in Indianapolis, and Isaac Robertson of Sturgis; his parents, Marilyn Robertson of Sturgis, John (Debbey) Robertson, M.D., of Sturgis; four sisters, Lori Blue of Sturgis, Beth (Roger) Ganger of Centreville, Sue (Dan) Gest of White Pigeon and Jacqueline Robertson of Hubbard, Ohio; one brother, Mark Robertson of Bronson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Steve’s longtime best friend, Dan Mowry for his never wavering support and friendship to Steve.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, and 10-10:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Steve Robertson will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Bender of First Baptist Church in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis.
