Sturgis Man Arrested

A 23-year-old Sturgis man was charged with a number of offenses after he fled from Sturgis police late last week.

Phillip Royer was charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing an officer, driving on a suspended license and also was charged with a parole violation. His arrest culminated after Sturgis police attempted to stop him for a moving violation around 11 p.m. Friday at Congress and Orange streets.

Police said Royer drove through a number of business parking lots and nearly struck a vehicle head-on as he was pursued by police. He was taken into custody after his vehicle crashed into a wall at Lakeland Paper Corporation, in the 500 block of Prairie Street.

He was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
