Jack Ashby, 94

John F. “Jack” Ashby, age 94, of Three Rivers, died Saturday April 21, 2012 at his home. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on March 31, 1918 the son of Elmer I. and Emma (Harrison) Ashby. Following high school Jack joined the Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Before going overseas, he was married to Marceline “Betty” Steil on July 25, 1942 in Detroit.

After Jack’s discharge from the military they resided in various parts of the country where he worked in the auto industry. Jack had been employed at Packer Motors, Plymouth, and American Motors, and later at a General Motors Dealership. He moved to Three Rivers in 1988 where he enjoyed flower gardening and playing golf. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon and the American Legion Post in Three Rivers.

Jack is survived by his wife, Betty of Three Rivers; one daughter, Annette Ashby of Three Rivers; two granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth Jarrad of Brooklyn, NY and Anne Catherine Jarrad (Ryan Thomas) of Cleveland Heights, OH; 2 great grandchildren, Jack Henry Thomas and Emmerson Thomas. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Ashby; his mother, Emma Bilant; and a sister, Valdine Ashby.

Cremation has been conducted. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday April 27, 2012 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to services. Interment will be in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery will military honors by Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170. Memorials are suggested to either the Three Rivers Health Hospice, or to St. Edward Catholic Church.
