Police find meth lab in hotel

Four people were arrested Saturday following complaints of a chemical odor emitting from a room at a hotel in the 1700 block of South Centerville Road.

Upon further investigation, Sturgis Police officials were denied access to the room because it was not in the name of the lone occupant. A search warrant, however, was secured from prosecutor John McDonough. Police found two inactive one-pot methamphetamine labs, and evidence of production and distribution of meth.

Three subjects in a car that pulled into the parking lot but immediately fled the scene were later apprehended and determined to be involved with the situation. Guns, meth components and paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle, police said.

In all, four subjects were taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, with charges ranging from manufacturing and use of meth, to felony firearms.
