Three Rivers officials said beginning Thursday, River Road will be closed to through traffic for at least a six-week period for infrastructure work.
City crews plan to work on the remainder of the water main under River Road to be replaced and extended to serve properties at the east end of the city.
The detour will be from 9th Street to Holtom Road. Motorists westbound on River Road are advised to go south to M-86 or north to M-60 to get into town.
Also beginning Thursday, Hoffman Street will be closed at West Street for at least one day, as construction crews plan to tap the water main on the north side of Hoffman. The work is in advance of the West Street water main replacement project.
A detour route is posted, and includes Maple Street, Armstrong Boulevard and North Main Street.
