Thelma Reeves, 79

Thelma L. Reeves, age 79, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at her home.

She was born June 15, 1932, in Missouri, a daughter of the late Marshall and Sarah (Shivers) Williams.

Thelma had been a resident of Sturgis since 1969, moving here from Goshen, Ind.

She was first married to Samson J. Hizer for 19 years; this marriage ended in divorce. She then was united in marriage to Evert Reeves; this marriage also ended in divorce.

Thelma ran a daycare for many years and also worked at Bright and Clean Laundromat in Sturgis. She was an active member of Sturgis Wesleyan Church, where she volunteered for the Awana program.

Surviving are four daughters, Sarah Gregory of Sturgis, Charlotte Huber of Goshen, Debra Rieger of Sturgis and Sandra (Chris) White of Battle Creek; a son, J.R. (Cody) Reeves Jr. of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; many, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, JR (Bonnie) Williams of Lebanon, Mo.; and a sister, Rosie McCoy of Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Samira; and sisters and brothers Hazel Havlock, Calvin Williams, Ivan Williams, Raymond Williams, Irene Calentine, Marion Williams, Willie Williams, Francis Williams, Zelphie Richardson and Cythie (Helen) Mercer.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Friday at Sturgis Wesleyan Church, 907 N. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where services celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Steve Bean will officiate.

The family suggests memorial donations be directed to the family to help with expenses. Envelopes are available at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, or at Sturgis Wesleyan Church.
