Anne C. (Kyle) Cumberbatch, age 87, of Sturgis, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 10, 2012, at Sturgis Hospital.
She was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y., a daughter of the late John and Mary (MacDermid) Casey.
Mrs. Cumberbatch resided in Sturgis since 1996 coming from Long Island.
On May 17, 1947, she married John Francis Kyle in Port Washington, Long Island. He died Feb. 24, 1982. On Jan. 30, 1977, she married George L. Cumberbatch in Long Island, New York. He died June 9, 2002.
Mrs. Cumberbatch had been employed as a secretary at Knickerbocker Brewery and as a receptionist for Continental Employment Agency and worked in the credit department at the Newsday newspaper, all in New York.
She was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and during World War II she was a member of the U.S.O. Mrs. Cumberbatch enjoyed tap-dancing and playing cards and bingo.
She is survived by a son, Rusty (Jean) Kyle of Sturgis; three grandchildren, Lyn Kyle of Portland, Ore., Jamie Kyle of Sturgis and Dan Kyle of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and one sister, Mary Castelli.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The funeral Mass celebrating the life of Anne C. Cumberbatch will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz will officiate. In accordance with her wishes cremation will follow the Mass. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak.
