Dorothy Jackson, 92

Dorothy V. Jackson, age 92, of Three Rivers, went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2012 at her home with her loving family by her side. Dorothy was born on the family farm on Buckhorn Road on Dec. 31, 1919 the daughter of Orville and Myrtle (Gentzler) King. She attended a one-room school on Heimbach Road through the 8th grade then went to Three Rivers High School, graduating in 1938. After graduation she worked for High School Principal, Howard Dickie for 5 years. She was married to George Jackson, Jr. in March of 1946. They had three children, Sue Ellen, Janine, and Jeffrey. After her children were all in school she went to work in the offices at Fibre Converters where she worked for 21 years, retiring in 1980.

Dorothy was a member of the Bible Church for many years and for the past several years attended Bethany Chapel where she was chosen as Mother of the Year in 2008. She was a life-long animal lover and fed and loved every stray that crossed her path. Because of her devotion to animals she was chosen to receive the Animal Rescue Fund Award in 2011 for helping animals in need in St. Joseph County. She supported and donated to numerous other animal funds religiously over the years.

Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. Her greatest pleasures were spending time with her family. She rarely missed any family activities, or sporting events. She was always there to cheer on her grandchildren. Words cannot describe how much she is loved and missed. She was our Angel here on earth.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her 3 children, Sue (Ted) Hicks of Three Rivers, Janine (Andy) Lenderink of Portage, and Jeff (Sue) Jackson of Three Rivers; 6 grandchildren, Robin (Ray) Friel, Rebecca Hicks Weiderman, Renee (Jeff) Draime, Kristin Borst, Lisa (Scott) Karle, Craig (Lindy) Jackson; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; and 2 sisters, Marian Aurand and Vera Reed

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday May 11, 2012 at Bethany Chapel, 15130 Millard Road, Three Rivers with Pastor Tim Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to either, Animal Rescue fund, Three Rivers Health Hospice, or to Bethany Chapel. An online register is available at www.efhchapel.com
