Georgia Kreider, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Pete and Emily (Eyester) Pappas.
On Jan. 16, 1944, she married Lloyd A. Kreider in Sturgis. He preceded her in death May 2, 2002.
Georgia had been a resident of Sturgis all her life, except for a few years when her husband was in the U.S. Navy. They lived in San Diego, Brimington, Wash., and Boston for a few years each.
She was a homemaker and worked part time at Segers Department Store and did the bookkeeping at her husband’s business, Quality Tool and Die.
Georgia was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed decorating for many events, working in the kitchen, at the bazaar and church rummage sales and was involved with the woman’s club.
She also enjoyed raising mums and mowing the yard.
Surviving are a daughter, Diana (Rick) Capman of Sturgis; sisters Mary Summey of Marshall, and Helen Bumann and Irene Miller, both of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers Nick, Gus and James Pappas.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, MI 49091.
Services celebrating the life of Georgia Kreider will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 1320 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, with the Rev. Michael Wicks officiating.
Interment and graveside services will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
