Police looking for Ames

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man who led deputies on a high-speed chase starting in White Pigeon shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said 27-year-old Nicholas Ames, no address provided, is wanted for fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license and possession of drugs.

A deputy attempted to stop Ames in White Pigeon for a registration violation. A pursuit followed even after the tires of the vehicle Ames was driving were flattened through the use of Stop Sticks on U.S. 12 near the intersection of U.S. 131.

Ames exited the vehicle near a bridge at U.S. 12 and M-103 and jumped into the St. Joseph River.

Ames was also wanted on warrants for civil neglect, contempt of court and failure to appear.
