Shannon Lynne Carter, age 62, a life-long resident of Sturgis, passed away after a short illness on May 13, 2012, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
She was born Jan. 8, 1950, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Raymond and Carol (Hansen) Strang.
Shannon retired from Sturgis Hospital in April 2011 after 27 years as a dietary aide. She enjoyed writing poems, going for bike rides and spending time with her family and, most of all, her grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Tara (Richard) Ward of Sturgis; grandchildren, Brayden and Megan Hecht, both of Sturgis; siblings, Janice Strang of Sturgis and James (Pamela) Strang of Sturgis; nephews, Andrew and Dusten Strang; and special niece Vanessa Coniglio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Amy Coniglio.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service celebrating the life of Shannon will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
