Darlene Kay Rodgers, age 62, formerly of Leonidas, died Saturday June 2, 2012, at her home in Fishers, Ind., following a long illness.
She was born in Three Rivers, Mich., on June 20, 1949, the daughter of Clifford L. and Violet (Shaw) Birch.
Darlene graduated from Colon High School in 1968 and later from Wright Beauty Academy. She was a bus driver for Colon Schools for several years. Most recently Darlene worked as a medical coder at the Goshen Cancer Center. She was devoted to her family and was a member of the Riverside Church in Three Rivers before moving to Fishers, Ind., just two months ago.
Darlene was married to Vernon Rodgers on June 7, 1991, in Leonidas. He survives along with a daughter, Nikki (Scott) James of Noblesville, Ind.; Nikki’s children Parker, Gavin, and Nicholas James; three step children, Tyler, Michael, and Amber Rodgers; seven step-grandchildren; her mother, Vi (James) Korkinsky of Fishers, Ind.; two sisters, Diane (Doug) Stauffer of Three Rivers and Debbie (Lou) Modert of Galesburg; nieces and nephews, Dawn Hickey, Kirt Stauffer, Shanell Hughes, Stacy Riddle and their families; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Laugeman. She was preceded in death by her father, Cliff Birch; and a brother, Ron Laugeman.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. A private interment will be held in Leonidas Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday June 6, 2012, at Riverside Church in Three Rivers with Pastor Paul Booko officiating.
