John Wagner Sr., 83

Raymond John Wagner Sr., age 83, of Colon, passed away, Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Sturgis Hospital.

John was born April 1, 1929, in Colon, a son of the late Irvin L. and Eunice Belle (Snook) Wagner.

On Nov. 24, 1948, he married Shirley (Joy) Weinberg in Coldwater. She preceded him in death Nov. 2, 2009.

John had made his home in the Colon area all of his life. He had worked for the former Kirsch Co. of Sturgis for 44 years, retiring in 1991.

John enjoyed the out of doors hunting, fishing, gardening and time spent at his home on Beaver Lake.

He is survived by four children, Dixie (Charles) Miller of Middleville, Raymond J. (Brenda) Wagner of Colon, Steven H. (Judy) Wagner of Bronson and Allen K. Wagner of Pittsburg, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Beatrice Schull, Pearl Skeels, Muriel Hovarter and Nettie McGill; and five brothers, James, Earl, George, Harry, Robert and Irvin Jr.Wagner.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. A memorial service celebrating the life of R. John Wagner will then take place at 11 a.m., with Mr. David J. Farrell officiating.

A private graveside committal service and burial of ashes will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.

If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of John to either the Colon Rescue Squad or the American Lung Association. Envelopes are available at the Funeral Home.
