Man jailed after high speed chase

Investigators from the Sturgis Police Department have released the name of a local man who led officers on a two-state, high-speed chase last week.

Sturgis resident Nelson L. Wooster, 34, was taken to the LaGrange County Jail after leading Sturgis Police on a high-speed chase the evening of May 29.

Police attempted to stop Wooster near the intersection of Chicago Road and Lakeview Avenue, but he fled southbound on Lakeview at a high rate of speed, according to officers.

The pursuit ended just across the Indiana state line, where he lost control of the vehicle and crashed in a residential yard. He was apprehended moments later in a swampy area in which he fled.

Police said Wooster was driving with a suspended license and was wanted on several warrants. Also, methamphetamine precursors were found inside the vehicle, police said.

He remains behind bars, with bail set at $15,000.
