New pipeline in St. Joe

An open house to review plans for a new crude-oil pipeline covering a portion of St. Joseph County is set for Wednesday evening in Three Rivers.

Officials from Enbridge are planning to replace nearly 14 miles of pipeline in northern St. Joseph County next year. The full, 300-mile route begins near Gary, Ind., and ends near Port Huron.

Enbridge is planning the work as it will replace the 43-year-old pipeline that ruptured near Marshall two years ago and fouled a significant stretch of the Kalamazoo River.

Evidence of the work in St. Joseph County can be seen at the northeast corner of Heimbach Road and Silver Street in Mendon Township, where crews are clearing an area that will serve as a pipe yard for sections to be used in St. Joseph County.

Wednesday’s meeting runs 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lions Service Center, 420 Sixth St.
