Peter Dennis Miller, 70, of Three Rivers, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
He was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Kalamazoo, to Leo and Jeanne (DeVries) Miller, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol (Jerry) Kott of Vicksburg. He is survived by one son, Jason Leo (Lisa) Miller of Valparaiso, Ind.; one grandson, Noah Austin Miller of Three Rivers; one brother, John (Ethylene) Miller of Vicksburg; sisters, Mary Lynn (Don) Knapp of Kalamazoo, Suzanne (Bill) Hunt of Vicksburg and Kris (James) Swope of Vicksburg. He also is survived by cousin Mary (Doug) Miles of Gull Lake; nephews, Nathan (Denise) Welch of Vicksburg, Eric (Bonnie) Hayward of Grand Haven, Brian (Jennifer) Hayward of Mendon, Chris (Krissy) Hayward of Schoolcraft; and nieces, Diana (Hal) Blanchard of Vicksburg, Ann (Rick) Hughey of Vicksburg, Linda (Tim) Clysedale of Kalamazoo, Lori (Austin) Terry of Paw Paw, Kimberly (Richard) Furney of Vicksburg and Brenda (Steve) Schimp of Vicksburg, as well as long-time friend Jeanette Mercer and good friends and lifelong golfing buddies Stewart Nickell, Ron Campbell and John Zalga.
Pete and his siblings were raised on Indian Lake, in Vicksburg. He was a 1960 graduate of Vicksburg High School where he was a member of the basketball and golf teams. He served two years in the United States Army. Pete retired from E.L. Nickell Co. in Constantine as a quality control inspector. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings fan, an avid golfer and enjoyed swimming with friends at HealthTRAC Three Rivers Health. Pete spent the majority of his retirement years enjoying the company of his grandson, Noah.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held 11 a.m., July 21, at Chapman Memorial Nazarene Church, in Vicksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Pete’s name to the Three Rivers Little League, P.O. Box 323, Three Rivers, MI 49093, the Three Rivers Elks Lodge #1248, 603 W.
