Project FRESH program this summer

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is teaming up with MSU Extension this summer to offer special classes that will help participants learn how to buy, clean, store and cook with fresh produce.

Project FRESH is a program that makes fresh produce available to low income, nutritionally-at-risk women and children who participate in the Women, Infants and Children program.

WIC program recipients who participate in a short class will receive food coupons redeemable at local participating farmers markets to purchase fresh, locally grown produce.

The coupons come 15 in a book and are in increments of $2 each for a total of $30.

Locally, classes will be offered on the hour, 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday beginning next week at the Three Rivers office, 1110 Hill Street.

Classes will continue to be offered through the summer until all the coupons have been

distributed.
