Frank Maher, 79

Frank Michael Maher, age 79, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Banner-Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix.

He was born April 26, 1933, in Kalamazoo, a son of Charles and Abigail (Olmstead) Maher.

Following his service in the U.S. Army, Frank was a schoolteacher for more than 20 years at Battle Creek Lakeview and Glencoe School in Chicago, where he later served as principal. He was also a principal at schools in Scottsdale, Ariz. Frank later moved to Los Angeles, where he was employed by Bullock’s Department Stores as a management trainer. He was a member of the National Education Association and state education affiliates in Michigan, Illinois and Arizona.

Frank is survived by a son, Michael Andrew (Shari) Maher of Patterson, N.Y.; a daughter, Susan Jane (Wayne) Woodbury of Richmond Hill, Ga.; six grandchildren, Brenna Williams, Garrett Woodbury, Jacquelyn Andersen, Katherine Wessman, Rylan Woodbury and Alex Maher; and seven great-grandchildren, Abigail Woodbury, Ellie Woodbury, Meghan Williams, Isaac Williams, Gavin Andersen and soon to be born Baby Williams and Baby Woodbury.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dick Maher; and other loved ones.

In keeping with his wishes, Frank was buried next to his parents in a private ceremony at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Mendon. It is suggested that memorials be directed to the Arizona Humane Society.
