Opal Ferguson, age 90, of Mendon, died Friday July 27, 2012 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Blue Ridge, GA on Dec. 15, 1921 the daughter of Carl and Florence (Frady) Heaton, and attended school in Georgia. She was married to Arthur Lloyd Ferguson on March 19, 1938 in Blue Ridge. While living here, Opal had worked at G & W Pizza in Mendon, Arco in Schoolcraft, and retired from the Haas Corporation in Mendon after 18 years with the company. She enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting, and quilting.
Opal is survived by two daughters, Joan Wilcox of Three Rivers and Betty (Joe) Taylor of Sturgis; three sons, Billy Ferguson of Mendon, David (Pam) Ferguson of Three Rivers, and Tommy (Pam) Ferguson of Mendon; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Verna Picklesimer of Duckstown, TN; a brother, Fred Heaton of Davenport, FL; a sister in law, J.V. Heaton also of Davenport, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; one sister; her husband, Lloyd in 1966; infant daughter Evelyn in 1942; and son Dorsey in 2011.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday July 31, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev. Clint Zehr officiating. Burial will be in Moorepark Cemetery. It is suggested that memorials be directed to Sturgis Homecare and Hospice. Condolences may be left for the family at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
