Some rumors can be very upsetting. Rumor has it that the pizza establishment, located in Marketplace North, in Three Rivers, has been sold. What are we going to do about that? The pizza is so good, and the daily buffet is such a bargain. Life will not be worth living anymore. RELAX! The name is the only thing that will change. Hovey’s is the new name, and everything else will remain the same. If you don’t believe everything you read, and this is common these days, just stop in and speak with any of the wait staff. There are several places in Three Rivers that serve great pizza. Hovey’s is worth your time to stop in and check them out. It might take some time to change their outdoor sign, but they’ll have your pizza ready in minutes. Their salad is also great – fresh and healthy.
The weather has been ideal lately, much better than it was a couple of weeks ago. It’s hard to believe that football season will soon be here. Those living in the Mendon area, who have children interested in Rocket Football, should know that this Wednesday, July 18, is the day to sign up for Mendon Rocket Football. Registration will take place in the Mendon High School cafeteria from 6 to 8 P.M.. Equipment will also be distributed at this time. The cost is $40, and parents are reminded to take along a copy of the athlete’s birth certificate.
Also, this Wednesday, July 18, Glen Oaks Community College will host two political forums in the Nora Hagen Theater, beginning at 6 P.M. The two forums will feature candidates for Probate Judge and Drain Commissioner. If you want to continue to be a citizen in the know, you’ll want to make sure to attend.
The American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive Thursday, July 19, at the Fabius-Park Fire Department, 1400 West Broadway, Three Rivers. Everyone has the opportunity to donate that precious commodity from 11 A.M. to 4:45 P.M. Now is the time to donate blood. You never know when you might be the recipient.
Speaking of the Fabius-Park Fire Department, they will hold an Open House at their site Saturday, July 21, from 10 A.M. until 2 P.M. Here’s another one of those opportunities to take the family out and have a learning experience. Fire trucks will, of course, be on display, and you can even make it a lunch affair. Firefighters will serve up some tasty hot dogs, hamburgers, plus other refreshments, and the best part is that it’s all FREE.
Three Rivers Community Schools and the St. Joseph County United Way will sponsor a “Wet and Wild Bubble Fest” this Friday, July 20, from 1 to 2 P.M., at Barrows School, 416 Washington Street, in Three Rivers. Children under the age of 13 should wear a swim suit and go prepared to become soaked. Admission is FREE. Here’s something interesting: If it rains, the rain date is set for Friday, July 27.
Three Rivers Area Mentoring (TRAM) will sponsor a fishing tournament this Saturday, July 21, at Happy Landing, Happy Landing on County Line Road, between Harwood Lake and Corey Lake, west of Three Rivers. The tournament begins at 9 A.M., and they are looking for business and individual sponsors. The cost to sponsor is $100. For more information, please call TRAM at (269)278-8727.
Unless you’ve been living in a cave, as a hermit, you are all well aware of the fact that we are experiencing some difficult economic times lately. We are all trying to find ways to save a buck, whenever we can. Here are a couple of things you might want to consider:
Summer’s heat, not winter’s cold, is the leading cause of car battery failure. To minimize problems, clean corrosion from terminals, tighten cable connections, and add distilled water, if necessary, to “unsealed” batteries. Have your battery tested if it’s older than four years.
To confirm that your garage did tire rotations as promised, place a white mark on your rear tires; you should find it on the front tires before you pay the bill.
