Leslie Louise “Zezzie” (Dobberteen) Newcomb, age 56, of Albuquerque, N.M., left this world after a courageous struggle with illness Sunday Aug. 12, 2012, at Vista Care Hospice in Albuquerque. She will join her father, Joseph F. Dobberteen, and other loved ones to be with Jesus in Heaven.
She is survived by her loving husband, David K. Newcomb; mother, Alice O. Dobberteen of Albuquerque; sister, Lauren O. Dobberteen of Reston, Va.; and Dave’s two children and their spouses and four grandchildren, all of Albuquerque. Leslie was blessed with many close cousins, relatives and friends spread around the globe.
She was born Sept. 6, 1955, in Sturgis, attended Trinity Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1973. Leslie worked in the human resources field for close to 30 years. She was a dedicated employee and valuable asset to any company or organization lucky enough to hire her.
Leslie loved life and lived it to the fullest. Traveling on adventurous journeys or spending time with family and friends at her beloved Klinger Lake, or her home of 16 years in Albuquerque. She waterskied, snow skied, played golf and tennis, and designed and sewed like a true artist. She rode a unicycle and her own 2004 Harley Davidson Fat Boy and was elegant and graceful on both.
Leslie was the best daughter, sister, wife, cousin and friend anyone could ever ask for. Her beautiful smile will be greatly missed, but remembered forever. It was through this smile and great faith that she helped all around her to accept and know that she would be soon be free of pain.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to all the doctors and health care workers who cared for Leslie. Dr. Ampuero, her amazing oncologist, cared for and befriended Leslie until her final day. Even in hospice care she was visited by techs, massage therapists and nurses that had cared for her previously and obviously cared about her as a person.
Cremation has been entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home in Albuquerque. There will be one more magnificent journey with Dave to Klinger Lake on his Road King.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Leslie “Zezzie” (Dobberteen) Newcomb will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow will officiate.
