Suspects flee following shoplifting

The Three Rivers Police Department took a report of several subjects shoplifting at Meijer on Saturday. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for police and continued north on US-131. The vehicle was disabled with Stop Sticks by assisting agencies, and stopped on Shaver Road in Portage. The suspects then fled on foot into a wooded area near Little Sugarloaf Lake. Two subjects, an adult male and female, were taken into custody shortly after the van stopped. The driver and a third passenger were arrested Saturday night. The driver was brought back to St. Joseph County and lodged in the county jail. The suspects allegedly attempted to steal over $1000 in merchandise from Meijer. All four suspects are facing multiple felony charges. A total of eight police agencies were involved in the incident.
