Ware not seeking a recount

Two days after failing by eight votes to return to a third term as a member of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners, Fawn River Township resident Jerry Ware announced he will not seek a recount.

Ware, a four-year member of the county board, said even though he carried Fawn River Township and one of four precinct in the city of Sturgis, he conceded there’s little chance as many as eight votes of the 407 in Sturgis’ First Precinct would be found invalid.

Ware held the lead over opponent John Dobberteen after Fawn River Township and three of the city’s four precincts were counted, but results from the First Precinct – Dobberteen’s home precinct – gave Dobberteen the two-year term to District 5.

If he changes his mind, Ware has until Wednesday to request a recount, which would cost him $10 for each precinct chosen for a recount.
