Building in Colon sold

Colon Village President Tom Whitford said the long-abandoned Lamb Knit Goods has a new owner.

Located at the southwest end of the community, the distinguished, 23,000-square-foot brick building was sold to Mervin Mishler, a 42-year-old Amish man from LaGrange.

Whitford said Mishler intends to restore the building and use it as a mercantile center for area vendors. Whitford said Mishler did not indicate a timeframe for the restoration or opening of the business, but he has tentatively set Oct. 20 as the date for a one-day yard sale of the contents of the building.

The Lamb Knit Goods building has been a Colon landmark for decades, as it was constructed in the late 1800s, Whitford said.
