Doris Denney, 78

Doris “Doe” Denney, age 78, of Sherwood, MI, died Sunday Sep. 2, 2012 at the Laurels in Coldwater. She was born near Mendon, MI on Jan. 19, 1934 the daughter of Frederick and Goldie Mae (DeHoff) Denney. She enjoyed raising and riding horses in her younger days . Doris graduated from Colon High School in 1952 and had been employed by the Haas Corporation in Mendon for over 43 years.

Doris was an accomplished ballplayer for 30 years. She was awarded numerous trophies for her outstanding athletic and pitching abilities in area softball leagues. She enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. She built and trimmed out the interior of her home and made several pieces of furniture. She was an avid hunter and fisherwoman and loved her dogs. She also enjoyed leather-work and sewing.

Doris is survived by five sisters, Mary Martha Denney of Sherwood, Bertha Smith of Fulton, Patricia Shepler-Carter of Athens, Mable Holtz of Fulton, and Delores Loker of Fulton; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Alma Guthrie; four brothers, Arthur, William, Frederick Dale, and Peter Denney.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday Sep. 6, 2012 at the funeral home with Rev. Noah Miller, Pastor of the Fulton Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in South Fulton Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army.
