Firemen promoted

The Centreville Fire Department marked the promotion of two of its officers Monday with a pinning ceremony.

According to a department news release, Lt. Bryan Balk was promoted to assistant chief. Meanwhile, Larry Schlabach was promoted to lieutenant.

The positions became open after the retirement of longtime assistant chief, Jody McClain.

During Monday’s ceremony, members of the Centreville department were present and in uniform to witness each new officer take the oath of office.

Balk has been a firefighter for 15 years and was previously a lieutenant on the department.

Schlabach, an 11-year veteran of the Centreville department, is a firefighter and medical first responder.
