Head-on collision sends two to hospital

A head-on collision Thursday morning in Sturgis Township sent two area men to Sturgis Hospital for treatment.

State police officials said 38-year-old Edwin Washington, of Three Rivers, was driving west on U.S. 12 about 7:30 a.m. when he attempted to pass a vehicle. While passing near the Shimmel Road intersection, Washington crashed his vehicle head-on into an eastbound car driven by Sturgis resident Charles Bradley, 42.

Investigators said they were surprised to find both men sustained only minor injuries.

The matter remains under investigation, as officials suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.

U.S. 12 was closed for nearly two hours while debris was cleared and investigators documented the incident.
