Man arrested following gas theft

A 30-year-old Three Rivers resident was charged with a pair of offenses after he attempted to leave a local gas station without paying for fuel.

The Three Rivers Police Department said the man pumped an unstated quantity of gasoline around 8:30 a.m. Friday, August 30th, and fled the Admiral gas station without paying. The store clerk was able to secure license plate information, and a clear description of the vehicle and suspect.

The suspect fled north on U.S. 131, eventually abandoned the vehicle and ran from the scene. With assistance from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was captured in a field.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was charged with resisting and obstructing, and larceny of gasoline.
