Maxine Wertz, 87

Maxine Ellen Wertz, 87, of Colon, Mich., arrived safely home with Jesus Christ her Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Sturgis Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born March 8, 1925 in White Pigeon, Mich., the daughter of Arthur and Myrtle (Sullivan) Dowty.

She was a Colon resident since 2003, coming from Mottville.

On April 20, 1947, she married Edward J. Wertz in Constantine. He died Jan. 4, 2006.

She was a lifelong homemaker and a secretary at White Pigeon Schools. She was a member of the Mottville Bible Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, crafts, traveling to Florida, gaither gospel music and biking.

Surviving are three daughters, Kathy Wertz of Colon, Virginia (Butch) Stump of Sturgis, Carol Lusk of Constantine; two sons, Jim (Roberta) Wertz of Millington, Mich. and Mike (Patsy) Wertz of Constantine; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Irma Irene Arnold of Three Rivers; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lori Thurston; four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mottville Bible Church in Mottville with Pastor Jim Wertz and Pastor Bryan Vercler officiating. Burial will be in Mottville Township Cemetery.
