Steven Lee Reed, age 65, of Sturgis, passed away early Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, 2012, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born Aug. 18, 1947, in Three Rivers, a son of the late Russell and Bonnie (Blank) Reed.
Steve was a lifelong resident of the Sturgis and Centreville area and was a graduate of Centreville High School with the class of 1966.
On March 7, 1998, he married Melissa Lampe in Albuquerque, N.M.
Steve was a talented welder by trade and retired from Morgan Olson in Sturgis after over 20 years of employment. He also had worked at Leland Manufacturing in White Pigeon for several years.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #1314 and the Sturgis Toy Run. Steve enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, and gardening and participated in dart leagues. He loved spending time at his cabin in Kalkaska, just walking in the woods and drinking beer with his many friends.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife and best friend, Melissa; one daughter, Charlene (Frank) Sade of Mustang, Okla.; one son, Rusty Reed of Sidney, Ohio; four grandchildren, Allen, Traci, Raven and Bradley; one sister, Cathy (Dan) Luttrell of Three Rivers; two brothers, Tim (Melanie) Reed of Sturgis and Jeff Reed of Sheridan, Wyo.; several special nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and he will be missed by his special friend, Jenny.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Tracy Reed.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Steve Reed will be held Friday, Sept. 21 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 1207 W. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Bill Baily will officiate. Following the service there will be a continued time of fellowship and the sharing of a meal and memories.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is entrusted with the arrangements.
