Two arrested for theft charges

Sturgis Police arrested two men early Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the theft of cigarettes from a gas station in LaGrange County.

According to a media release, the two were stopped at an unspecified location in the city and the 33-year-old driver was found to have a suspended license.

Consent was given to search the vehicle and officers uncovered burglary tools and four cartons of cigarettes.

An operator from St. Joseph County’s central dispatch received confirmation from a counterpart in LaGrange County that investigators there were looking into the burglary of a gas station on State Road 9.

The location of the incident and names of the suspects were not cited in the media release.

The two were charged with parole violation, and possession of burglary tools and stolen merchandise.
