Cornelius Revere Hamminga, Sr. age 76, formerly of Mendon and Diamondale, died Thursday Oct. 11, 2012 at the Holt Senior and Rehab Center in Holt, MI. He was born in Chicago on Oct. 24, 1935 the son of the late Garmt and Henrietta (Vienstra) Hamminga, and attended schools in Chicago. The family later moved to Mendon, and Cornelius resided for almost 40 years in the Traverse City area where he was a landscaper. Cornelius was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank, Henry, and Gerrit Hamminga; four sisters, Jane Hamminga, Imogene Merchant, Beatrice Cook, and Jantina Albright; and long-time companion, Irene Weston. He is survived by four children, Debra Kelly of Cadillac, Cornelius (Kathy) Hamminga, Jr. of Sturgis, Marsha (Joseph) Caldwell of Constantine, and Lisa (Virgil) Caldwell of Blanding, UT; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Henrietta Hamminga of Mendon; a brother, Clarence (Mary Jane) Hamminga of Three Rivers; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has been conducted. A graveside service and interment of ashes will be held on Saturday Oct. 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Mendon Cemetery.
