Richard R. Hyde, 80, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, 2012, at Sturgis Hospital.
He was born Sept. 13, 1932, in Sturgis, a son of the late Maurice and Erma (Foss) Hyde.
Dick resided his entire life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1950.
He was first married to Noreen Drumond in 1953. This marriage ended in divorce. On July 6, 1990, he married Judith D. (Clark) Baker in Sturgis. She died Feb. 3, 2004.
Dick retired from Michigan Gas Utilities following many years of dedicated employment. He had also worked for the U.S. Postal Service and Marvel Industries.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #1314, Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Men’s Auxiliary and the Loyal Order of the Moose #574. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, photography and cameras and was a fan of NASCAR.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen (Dorie) Hyde of Auburn, Ind., and Randy (Dixie) Hyde of Sturgis; two stepdaughters, Kathy Weigel of Sturgis and Lori (Sonny) Swartzentruber of Goshen, Ind.; a stepson, Douglas (Cathy) Baker of Sturgis; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Elsworth Hyde.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Richard Hyde will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Renner of Sturgis Missionary Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis.
