Enhanced Narcotics Unit makes first arrest

The first arrest made by the enhanced St. Joseph County Area Narcotics unit was made in the city of Sturgis this week.

A 42-year-old man was arrested following a raid at his residence in the 700 block of Lancashire Drive. The arrest completes an investigation of several months and was made by the SCAN unit, which was recently expanded to include four investigators and two detectives thanks to financial backing by the cities of Three Rivers and Sturgis, as well as the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners.

SCAN members said they expect a measurable increase in methamphetamine-related arrests with the added manpower on its unit.
