John Deisler, 81

John L. Deisler, 81, of White Pigeon, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at his son’s home in Middlebury, Ind., following an extended illness.

He was a petty officer in the U.S. Navy for four years.

He was born Jan. 21, 1931, in White Pigeon, a son of Charles Clayton and Gladys L. (Hawkins) Deisler.

He had been a resident of the White Pigeon area most of his life.

On Sept. 15, 1956, he married Marilyn J. Rentfrow in White Pigeon. She preceded him in death Dec. 25, 2011.

He was employed for 35 years at the White Pigeon post officer, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the White Pigeon Men’s Bowling Association, White Pigeon Golf League and Swartz-VanFleet Post #138 American Legion in White Pigeon. He enjoyed reading and woodworking.

Surviving are a daughter, Debra (James) Flood of Sturgis; two sons, Richard (Tammy) Deisler of Middlebury and John C. (Barbara) Deisler of Otsego; eight grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Betty Cast and Mary Deisler; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, G. Charles Deisler and Donald Deisler.

Visitation will take place noon-3 p.m. Saturday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon.

There will be no service. Cremation will follow visitation. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in White Pigeon Township Cemetery.

Donations may be directed to White Pigeon Township Library or White Pigeon American Legion post. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
