Mildred Hamlet, 97

Mildred Patrick (Kime) Hamlet, 97, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, 2012, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.

She was born April 1, 1915, in Kenton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ollie and Lula (Birchfield) Patrick.

Mrs. Hamlet resided in Sturgis since 1996. Prior to moving to Sturgis, she lived in Rome City, Ind., and Auburn, Ind.

On Nov. 17, 1962, she married Wayne Hamlet in LaGrange, Ind. He died Jan. 20, 2007.

In the early 1950s, she worked for Dr. Heinz R. Weisheit, M.D., in Sturgis. In 1957, she and her sister Hattie Weible became the owners of Pullman Diner in LaGrange, a business they operated for several years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rome City and was also a life member of the DeKalb Hospital Guild. Mrs. Hamlet enjoyed quilting and her famous pie-baking skills will be missed by many.

She is survived by three daughters, Lois Sanderson, Beverly (Don) Unterkircher and Mary Reed, all of Sturgis; a son, Jack (Edith) Kime of Ligonier, Ind.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Charlie Patrick of Sturgis; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy Kime; two sisters, Opal Meese and Hattie Weible; a brother, Everit Patrick; one sister-in-law: Grace Patrick.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life and share memories of Mildred Hamlet will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sturgis Missionary Church, 67087 N. M-66, in Sturgis.

Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, is entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Mrs. Hamlet’s memory be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
