Nancy Handshoe, 58

Nancy Lou Handshoe, age 58, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at home after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was born July 17, 1954, in Sturgis, a daughter of John and Virginia (Geyer) Kuhl.

Nancy was a resident of the Sturgis area all of her life and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1972.

On Sept. 23, 1972, she married Jerry Handshoe at First United Methodist Church in Sturgis.

She had been employed by H&R Block in Sturgis for more than 20 years and also as a cook for Centreville Public Schools.

She enjoyed shopping, cake decorating, scrap-booking and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband: Jerry; three daughters, Janell Hierholzer of Portage, and Bethany Handshoe and Sarah Handshoe, both of Sturgis; a son, Mark L. Handshoe of northern Indiana; seven grandchildren, Anthony, David, Aiden, Owen, Kaylee, Austin and Kayla; a sister, Karen Brownridge of Sturgis; two brothers, Tom Kuhl of Alabama and Jeff Kuhl of Sturgis; her mother, Virginia Kuhl of Sturgis; two sisters-in-law, Teena Kuhlof Sturgis and Martha Kuhl of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 300 Timothy Drive, Sturgis.

Services celebrating the life of Nancy L. Handshoe will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the church, with Pastor Luke Eicher officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations be directed to the family. Envelopes are available at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
