Last Labor Day we had the Annual Three Rivers Bridge Walk, sponsored by the Three Rivers Women’s Club. Congratulations ladies, for a successful turnout for your event. The weather cooperated, which added to the fun. This month, The Pregnancy Helpline Center of Three Rivers will host their annual fundraiser on Saturday, October 6. “Life Walk 2012” starts off with registration at 9:30 AM, and the Life Walk begins promptly at 10:30. The walk starts at the pavilion in the park behind Pizza Hut and continues east on Michigan Avenue to the Pregnancy Helpline Center, and then returns to the park. A FREE gourmet lunch will be provided by Weenie King; there will also be free gifts and activities for the children. With everyone’s participation, the Pregnancy Helpline Center will have the funds to continue to offer the many services and programs FREE to their clients. To obtain a pledge packet, call Dale at (269) 506-1158.
Sunday, October 14, is the date for this year’s Three Rivers area Fall Color Tour. From noon to 5 PM, your family can enjoy a scenic, fun-filled drive through the countryside and enjoy a variety of destinations and activities along the way. The Fall Color Tour is hosted by local businesses, St. Joseph County Parks, and the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce. The color tour was started by the Chamber of Commerce in the 1950s, and the area has been celebrating the beauty and color of Southwest Michigan ever since. Mark your kitchen calendar for October 14 as family fun day.
This Thursday and Friday, October 4 and 5, the Trinity Episcopal Church, 321 North Main Street, Three Rivers, will host their annual rummage sale. Thursday’s hours are from 7 AM to 6 PM, and Friday is “One Dollar Bag Day” from 9 AM until noon. This means that you can fill a bag with treasures for just $1.
This weekend is filled with a lot of work and plenty of playtime. If you happen to have some hazardous waste sitting around in your garage or basement, here’s an opportunity to get rid of that nasty stuff. Hazardous Waste collection will take place this Saturday, October 6, from 8 AM to noon, at the St. Joe County Fairgrounds in Centreville. They will NOT accept Latex paint or waste oil. If you have tires to get rid of, they must be free of mud and water. There may be a slight fee on some of the items. Questions can be answered by phoning (269) 467-5617.
If you’ve spent a long day this Saturday, October 6, getting rid of the hazardous waste and cleaning out the garage and basement, you might want to consider taking a ride over to the VFW in Marcellus. Located on M-40, just south of M-216, the VFW is offering a delicious prime rib dinner from 5 to 7PM. Nothing quite like a delicious meal after a hard day’s work. The dinner is only $14 and includes the salad bar and a baked potato. If prime rib is not your choice, they’ll also have burgers for $4 and cheeseburgers for $4.50. For a dollar more, you can make it a french fry basket.
To top off your busy Saturday, take the family to the Three Rivers High School Performing Arts Center (PAC). The Three Rivers German Band will perform “Good Entertainment” at 7:30 PM. Probably the neatest thing about this concert is that it’s FREE.
Next Tuesday evening, October 9, is “College Night” at Glen Oaks Community College near Centreville. From 6:30 to 8 PM, over fifty colleges will be represented in the college gymnasium. Military representatives will also be there to answer any questions you might have. The Nora Hagen Theater will have people there to assist you with questions concerning obtaining financial aid. They will be available from 6 to 7 PM.
The travel season is just about over for the summer, but if travel plans are still on your mind, and you’re planning to travel alone, you might want to consider using the bus. It’s usually cheaper than traveling by train or plane, and drops you off in the center of a major city. Many buses offer free Wi-Fi and power outlets. With several lines, like BoltBus and Megabus, you can save big by booking early online. It doesn’t cost anything to check it out. Trains also have some great deals.
See you Out and About!
