Phyllis Hart, 90

Phyllis Jane Hart, 90, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2012, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, with her husband and daughter Susan at her side.

She was born Sept. 6, 1922 in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Henry A. and Dorothy G. (Diehl) Wheeler.

In April 1943, she married Ward Hart in Corpus Christi, Texas.

She worked prior to World War II as an artist for Harvey Paper Products of Sturgis. Following World War II. She worked for Leone Studios and retired from Kirsch Company in Sturgis following 18 years of dedicated service.

Phyllis was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #73 in Sturgis. She was also active with the 4-H Saddle Club of St. Joseph County in the 1960s. She loved arts and crafts, crocheting and antiques.

She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 69 years, Ward; two daughters, Mary Rue of Salem, Ore., and Susan Long of Sturgis; a granddaughter, Randee Long of Fairlawn, Ohio; two grandsons, Josh Long of Lima, Ohio, and Scott Rue of Salem; four great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews, including special niece Carol Ann Jackson of Lakewood, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Betty Eldridge.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Burial of the ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta at a later date to be announced.

Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, is entrusted with arrangements.
